Our
Approach
We feel that psychiatry treatment works best when the patient is the director of medical decisions. As such, we at Alpenglow Behavioral Health strive to empower patients to make their own treatment decisions by supplying them with the most current guidelines, treatment options and standards of care so they can decide what best fits their path to wellness.
Dr. Spencer Augustin
I was born and raised here in Anchorage, Alaska. I am Board Certified in Child/Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, with additional Board Certification through the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons. I hold special interests in ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, and developmental delay.
Before I started my medical training I spent a year working as a commercial fisherman and as a teacher assistant in a special education classroom. I then attended Pacific Northwest University to obtain my medical degree. This was followed by three years of Adult Psychiatry Residency in Pennsylvania. After completing my adult training I completed two more years of Fellowship training to specialize in Child/Adolescent Psychiatry at the Huntsman Mental Health Institute in Utah.
As someone who’s family has been in Alaska almost 80 years, it felt natural to come back and treat the members of my community. Today my focus is on providing support as my patient’s seek to better their lives and improve functioning. To accomplish this, I first focus on completing an in depth psychiatric evaluation, with particular focus on reported areas of distress. Once the assessment is completed my goal becomes to inform patients about the biological, psychological, and social factors that impact their functioning. In doing this, my hope is to create well informed patients who are empowered to make the best decisions for their individual treatment needs.
Keith McCormick, PA-C, DMS
I was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, and am fortunate to be married to my high school sweetheart, with whom I share two young boys. My journey into healthcare began with five years of service in the Marine Corps Infantry, an experience that deeply shaped my early adulthood. Later, I served as a combat medic with the U.S. Department of State and worked as a paramedic in Alaska. These roles cemented my passion for healthcare, leading me back to school, where I earned my Doctorate in Medical Science from Butler University.
As a board-certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, I am dedicated to helping others live their best lives. My time in the military gave me firsthand insight into the mental health challenges faced by individuals and families, inspiring me to return to my community to provide meaningful behavioral health support. Today, I work closely with Dr. Augustin, collaborating to offer comprehensive care that empowers our clients to reach their full potential.
